Weekly Photo Challenge 20

20 – Liquid – Daranak Falls
20 – Liquid – Daranak Falls

I’m not keen on going into bodies of water with the potential of swallowing me alive– translation: I can’t swim. However, this does not stop me from marveling at their beauty. 📷❤️️

This particular body of water is located in Tanay, Rizal, Philippines. 🌞

Weekly Photo Challenge 11

11_I'd Rather Be
11 – I’d Rather Be… – Explorer

While it might seem like I prefer staying indoors–which I sometimes do–I also dream about going out on a whim and getting lost exploring a totally unfamiliar place.
Maybe someday.

I like to travel.
I just wish it were always free… 😭

Weekly Photo Challenge 10

10_Story
10 – Story – Aliens…?!

There is a story behind this photo, and I swear it’s not about an alien invasion.
This was taken in Nueva Vizcaya in the early hours of the morning.
And those were humans caught in the headlights of a very normal earth vehicle–and who were further caught in the lenses of a very amateur photographer. 😝

They’re preparing to climb Mt. Ugo to share some good stuffs with the lovely kids up there.

These people weren’t there to cause trouble, really.

Or were they…? 😱

Weekly Photo Challenge 9

09_Out of This World
09 – Out of This World – Bird’s Eye View of Taal Volcano

The first time I saw Taal Volcano, the smallest active volcano in the world, was on a postcard.
Then I’ve had occasions of seeing it from afar on elevated ground.

This was the first time I saw it from up in the air–on a plane.
And framed by those clouds, it looks like a peek into an entirely different world.

08 – A Face in the Crowd – Shadows on a Ship

This photo fits the theme of “anonymity” perfectly: I thought I was taking a picture of my travel companions, but I’m really not so sure anymore… 😝

Weekly Photo Challenge 7

07_Sweet
07 – Sweet – Taho, a popular sweet Filipino snack

Who does not love Taho?
I remember when I was a kid, I always got so excited when the taho vendor swung by around calling out, “Taho! Taho!” to lure guileless kids like me out of the house and shell out some stray change on this magical concoction.

And while it may look like nothing but soft tofu swimming in melted sugar and topped with a few precious sago pearls, to kids, and kids at heart, it’s like food for the gods.

I don’t think I”ll ever stop craving for it. ♥

Weekly Photo Challenge 6

06_Tour Guide
06 – Tour Guide – Seashore somewhere in the Philippines

We moved out of the city two years ago, and this challenge made me realize I haven’t really yet gone around to snap photos of the new place–which is really not so new anymore, come to think of it. 😂

This particular piece of paradise on earth is nowhere near our “not-so’new” new home. To be perfectly honest, I can no longer remember where this photo was taken. (Once upon a time, we went exploring the sea as a sidetrip post-climb… and it now feels like a memory I had from another lifetime 😕)

Nonetheless, I chose to post this image for the challenge, because if I were to be a tour guide for a day, I would probably be taking my guest/s to the nearest beach.

I don’t think you can ever go wrong with that. Especially not in a tropical country. 🌞

Weekly Photo Challenges 1-5

Although I am already more than a couple of weeks late, I hope to take part in the Weekly Photo Challenges this year. Each week, I will be posting a combination of old and new photos I took throughout the years in response to the upcoming prompts. Here are my responses for weeks 1 to 5. 📷

01_Growth
01 – Growth – @ Mt. Talamitam in Nasugbu, Batangas, Philippines

An old photo I took on my second hike up a mountain. I didn’t think I was going to do it again after the first one, but I ended up proving myself wrong. This perfectly represents GROWTH for me in that sense. If I had said no to progress, I would not have been able to capture such a magnificent sight. ♥

02_Weathered
02 – Weathered – Paoay Church Bell Tower @ Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines

This particular part of the church looked and felt haunting to me. And yet, at the same time, I could not help but be mesmerized by it. There’s so much history and mystery written on its walls. Just standing there made me feel awed, humbled, and so underdressed in the presence of majesty.

03 – Silence – @ Mount. Pinatubo, Central Luzon, Philippines

Our outdoor club had to walk the entire day just to get to this point. We were such cheapskates adventurers that we opted out of the four-wheel ride option. But all hardships paid off when we took the final turn and this was the view that greeted us. This particular angle was taken from an elevated place the morning after. We spent the night, and it was like being in an entirely different world. I wouldn’t mind walking all over again just to get back to this place. ♥

04_Variations on a Theme
04 – Variations on a Theme – Hanging Lanterns @ Mount Samat National Shrine in Pilar, Bataan, Philippines

Haunting is all I can remember of this place. But it was also beautiful. This is a historical shrine complex  in the Philippines built in honor of the brave Filipino and American soldiers who fought in World War II. There have also been stories of ghosts roaming this place. Too bad none ever crossed my path while I was there.
